This 'izakaya' (Japanese style pub-restaurant) is a bit different to the sorts of places I usually go to. The interior has been put together in a traditional style and, despite its location in the Shitamachi area of downtown Tokyo, it seems to attract a classier sort of clientele - you can often spot Tokyo's 'ladies and gentlemen' here, as well as customers enjoying a quiet drink on their own. Another aspect worthy of mention about this place is that it employs its own 'sake heater', (referred to in Japanese as the 'okanban') whose job it is to heat up the warm Japanese rice wine (called 'atsukan'). Warming up sake gives it a mild, mellow taste which is absolutely wonderful. As for the food, this place serves up a range of the usual izakaya favorites, including grilled skate fin and raw seafood dishes, which compliment the taste of rice wine excellently. This is a great place to experience the more refined side of Tokyo, and one which I hope will stay with us for many years to come.
