Located inside the grounds of the University of Tokyo, this cafe is the result of a collaboration between two well-known Tokyo establishments. The confectionery is produced by the chef of Japanese restaurant 'Kurogi', a place which is so popular that it's very difficult to get a table, while the coffee is provided by Sarutahiko Coffee, a coffee shop located in Ebisu. The terrace seats look out onto the garden of the former Maeda family estate, and the feeling of space and openness you get sitting out here will make you feel like you're on a holiday resort. Among the traditional Japanese confectionery items on offer are 'Warabimochi' (jelly-like bracken starch dumplings) made with pure bracken starch (a rare ingredient) and 'Anmitsu' (syrup-covered bean jam with fruit), which is served only in summer. All of the deserts are made using only the best, carefully selected ingredients. This cafe is the perfect place to find some respite during days out in the heat and humidity of the Tokyo summer.
