Yorii is located downstream of Nagatoro river, which flows through the Chichibu region in Saitama prefecture. Along this river is a quiet inn called “Kyotei”. The atmosphere is of a traditional and nostalgic inn, where customers can dine while overlooking the garden. The seasonal summer dish here is the ayu fish. Ayu can only grow in clear water and due to its bitterness, it is considered an acquired taste for adults. Even as a Japanese, I was astonished by the quality and freshness of the ayu course here. To arrive at Yorii, one will have to travel 2 hours by train from Shibuya. Of course, it will be best if you can stay in the inn and enjoy eating the ayu in the midst of nature. Yet, it is still worth going just for lunch!
